There are 8,000 ft mountain peaks, ancient cities and cultures, exotic temples, tea plantations as far as the eye can see, fascinating wildlife, delicious Sri Lankan cuisine and, of course, the island’s most famous residents, the elephants. On this tailor-made holiday (the 7 night tour is exclusive to Travel One guests), savour Sri Lanka’s distinct and energetic character as you take in Colombo, Pinnawala, Dambulla, Sigiriya, Kandy and the Horton Plains National Park followed by a week at one of Sri Lanka’s premier resorts, Negombo. Hotel Paradise Beach  

The Paradise Beach Hotel is on the beach at Negombo just 32 kms from Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital. All the hotel’s 66 comfortable, airconditioned rooms offer guests their own private balcony or terrace, en-suite bathroom, hairdryer (on request), tea and coffee making facility, telephone, safe and mini-fridge. There’s a swimming pool, sun terrace with sunbeds and umbrellas, a restaurant serving delicious Sri Lankan and international dishes, a bar and 24 hour reception.

Sri Lanka Itinerary

Day 1   Colombo city tour including the Goldsmith’s quarter, Gangarama temple, Fort and Pettah areas. Time for shopping. Overnight (half board) at the Pegasus Reef Hotel
Day 2  After early breakfast, drive to Sigiriya (approx.. 4 hours). En route, visit the Pinnawala elephant orphanage. Optional evening visit to the Dambulla cave temple. Overnight (half board) at the Camellia Resort & Spa Hotel.
Day 3  After breakfast, jeep ride to the rural village of Hiriwadunna. Here there is a lake boat trip, possible birdlife, butterfly and crocodile sightings, and a visit to a traditional Sri Lankan village. Optional evening visit to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Overnight (half board) at the Camellia resort & Spa Hotel.
Day 4  After breakfast, drive to Kandy (approx.. 3 hours). En route, visit the Matale spice gardens followed by a traditional cooking demonstration. On arrival in Kandy, there’s a guided tour including the Temple of the Sacred Tooth, wood carving and batik centres and an upper lake drive. In the evening, a cultural dance performance. Overnight (half board) at the Thilanka Hotel.
Day 5  After breakfast, at leisure in Kandy. Afternoon scenic train journey (approx. 4 hours taking in the beautiful hill country, waterfalls and tea plantations) to Nanu Oya and on to Nuwara Eliya. Overnight (half board) at the Jetwing St. Andrew’s Hotel.
Day 6  After breakfast, visit a tea plantation and later, enjoy a guided tour of Nuwara Eliya with its English country-style houses, Victoria Park (great for birdwatchers) and Gregory Lake. Overnight (half board) at the Jetwing St. Andrew’s Hotel.
Day 7  A very early start (with a packed breakfast) to visit Horton Plains National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. Here there’s the opportunity to marvel at wonderful scenery, including Baker’s Waterfalls, see some wonderful birdlife, monkeys, deer and lizards. Then a 3 hour drive to Kitugala via the 300 ft Devon and St Clair’s Waterfalls. Overnight in Kitugala (half board) at the Rafters Retreat Hotel.
Day 8  After breakfast, drive to Negombo (approx.. 3 hours) for a 7 night stay at the Paradise Beach Hotel (half board).
Day 15    Return flight to UK
