With
its stunning interior dominated by the Five Finger mountain range
and with a string of unspoilt villages and beaches dotted along its picturesque
coast, Northern Cyprus is, without doubt, a delightful destination just waiting
to be discovered. Picturesque Kyrenia, with its bustling harbour and narrow, winding
streets, is full of atmosphere and local life whilst either side of the town (the
nearest being approximately 20 minutes away by dolmus) you will find lovely beaches
and rocky coves lapped by the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean. Its
very easy to get around as car hire is inexpensive and theres also an excellent
dolmus (public minibus) service. Theres a sense of history and culture everywhere
you look with ancient settlements, churches and castles to explore whilst in Famagusta,
a beautiful, walled city on the east coast, theres a wealth of history and
a pedestrianised shopping area. An absolute must is a visit to the ruins of the
ancient city of Salamis, beautifully preserved and with the most important archaeological
site in the whole of Cyprus. Its stunningly beautiful, amazingly friendly,
easy on the pocket and highly recommended. |
