The
Greek island of Zakynthos is the most southern of the Ionian islands and is well
known for its sandy beaches, its eclectic mix of resorts some lively, others
delightfully peaceful and unspoilt and its beautiful, green, mountainous
hinterland. The entire coastline is dotted with pretty bays and coves whilst the
crystal clear waters surrounding the island are home to some spectacular wildlife
in the shape of the famous Caretta turtles (which return each year to make their
nests) and, if you are really lucky to catch a glimpse of them, the wonderful
Monachus seals which grace the rockier areas around the Keri Caves in the south
and the Blue Caves in the north. Our resort on Zakynthos is Porto Koukla, a picturesque
area nestled between Aghios Sostis and Keri Lake at the southern end of the island.
Its a small resort surrounded by olive groves on one side and the glistening
Med on the other and with lovely sea views from our hotel. Its all very
attractive and uncommercial with just a couple of hotels, villas, minimarkets
and bars but within easy walking distance of nearby Aghios Sostis with its wide
range of shops, bars, restaurants and some low-key night life. Theres
plenty to do and see on Zakynthos and we think its a destination that really
does have something for everyone. |
