Gozo, Maltese Islands

|
If you're looking for a Mediterranean island with commercial mainstream tourism, wall-to-wall discos,
non-stop shopping and a resort which has given up totally on simple, friendly service, then Gozo is
definitely not for you. However, if you're happy with the exact opposite - a picturesque island, an easygoing
Mediterranean way of life, great hospitality and delightful, uncommercial surroundings - then
Gozo fits the bill perfectly. Although only 25 minutes by ferry from her more famous sister island, Malta,
Gozo is, quite simply, another world. The pace is slower, the shops and bars friendlier, the scenery
prettier and the Gozitans offer their overseas guests a warm and genuine welcome. The island itself is
quite small but the contrasts are quite amazing with undulating hills, fertile valleys, pretty little beaches
and coves, picturesque villages and a capital, Victoria, which is utterly uncommercial and well worth a
visit. The Citadel and the cathedral in the centre of Victoria are absolute 'musts'. There's a lovely beach
at nearby Ramla Bay, the "Azure Window", a local beauty spot is not to be missed, whilst picturesque
Mgarr harbour is where you'll arrive by ferry from Malta. Our hotel is located in Marsalforn, on Gozo's
north coast, a small resort just 3 miles from Victoria.

The modern and very well appointed Calypso enjoys a great location overlooking
Marsalforn's harbour and bay. The small sand and shingle beach is just 100m from the
hotel whilst the resort's bars, shops and restaurants are a 5 minute stroll away. The
Calypso's excellent facilities include its own diving centre (1 hour free diving lesson
included), coffee shop & bar, tennis and squash courts, a lounge, and a rooftop swimming
pool with sun terrace, sunbeds, parasols, bar and great views of the bay and the
surrounding countryside. All Travel One's comfortable, airconditioned bedrooms are twins
or doubles for sole use and all have private sh/wc (with hairdryer), TV, safe, small fridge,
telephone and a balcony or terrace. Relaxed, friendly, delightfully Mediterranean and
uncommercial, Gozo is a very welcome addition to our 2009 programme. |
